Francophony Reading Marathon 2017

The marathon is dedicated to Marguerite Yourcenar, a grand lady of the French letters, and a historian, poet, novelist, chosen member of the male-dominated French Academy in 1980, refined traveler of the ancient world, with a sharp contemporary spirit. The marathon is a literary trip through the Oriental Tales of Marguerite Yourcenar. It will be organized in “reading tables” based on the writer’s favorite destinations: from China to Greece, from the Balkans to Japan, all these stories accompany the traveler-reader like music deriving from other places. An important stop in this trip is “Yourcenar’s Greece” with the short fiction [O anthropos pou eroteutike tis neraides], [I Panagia i xelidonou], [I xira Afrodisia], as well as excerpts from the book Memoirs of Hadrian and Costantinos Kavafis poems translated by M. Yourcenar.
