He was born in 1851 in Corfu, and studied in the School of Philosophy of the University of Athens, in Berlin and Leipzig, from where he was awarded a Ph.D. in 1873. He went on with his studies in Paris, London and Vienna, and in 1868 he returned to Greece and was elected as an Assistant Professor in the School of Philosophy of the University of Athens in the fields of History and Palaeography. Apart from his teaching duties, he served as a General Secretary of the Greek Olympic Games Committee (1901-1918), President of the Supervisory Board of Secondary Education, Dean of the School of Philosophy, Rector of the University of Athens&Greek Prime Minister (27 September 1916 – 21 April 1917), while he was a Founding Member of the Greek Historical and Ethnological Society, and National Society Member.
Spiridon Lambrou’s personal collection, including 12,000 book volumes, journals, newspapers, maps and manuscripts, and also some of his personal objects, was donated to Zosimaia by the daughters of Sp.Lambrou, Lina Tsaldari (1887 – 1981) politician and first Greek female Minister, and Charikleia Malamou, in June 1960.
